F.A.Q #1 - Just Joining
Q: Who is the site founder?
A: The site founder and creator is Kairo. However, he is no longer active and has given the site to Mishiko Alun and Atrus. You should still respect him if he shows up though.
Q: Who are the staff members of TAS?
A: In case you missed it in the selcome table (hover over the banner), the staff consists of Mishiko Alun and Atrus. You might see others with colored names, but they are not staff. If you have any problems, please PM a staff member.
Q: I’m ready to begin role-playing!
A: First things first, young grasshopper. Before you do anything else, it’s important to read ALL of the rules here at TAS, and most importantly make sure you fully agree to them. Once you have mastered the ways of the rules, you may start by posting up a profile in the Profiles board for a mod to check over. Once you receive an acceptance PM by a mod, you may begin your journey here at TAS. Please be patient, don’t go on an RPing rampage before you even have a profile accepted.
Q: What if I don’t agree with some of the rules or policies at TAS?
A: Well, it’s important that all members and mods are at a mutual agreement- we all must follow and agree with the rules and policies that TAS has set. We hope that all members of TAS understand why the rules are what they are. However, if you feel a rule could be changed to better the site, we are always up for suggestion.
Q: What happens if I break a rule?
A: Depending on the severity of the act consequences can range from warnings, reduced privileges, temporary bans (suspensions), to being banned from TAS indefinitely. Again, we ask that you agree with and are fully capable of following the rules before joining.
Q: Does staff have to follow the rules?
A: Absolutely! More then non-staff in fact. Mods should be setting a good example for everyone else on the site to follow.
Q: I’m new to RPing, how can I start?
A: It’s actually very simple. The best answer I can give is to look at some of the RP threads around and get a feel of how things go. If you need help or wish to get tips, you can always PM a mod, or other helpful members who may be more experienced.
Q: What type of RP is TAS?
A: As far as the genre goes, it’s pretty obvious we stand as an Avatar RP. We are built around the Avatar universe. We would like to think of ourselves as an intermediate/advanced RP forum, but we also hope to appeal to RPers of all skill.
Q: Can I do something OTHER than RP?
A: Yes. While we function mostly as an RP forum, we also have general discussions and chats set up in the general board where you can discuss all kinds of topics and play forum games to keep yourself busy.
Q: If I see someone breaking the rules what should I do?
A: It's best you report them to a mod and let them handle it.
Q: What if I see a mod breaking the rules?
A: Then report them to an admin immediately.
F.A.Q #2 - Who, What, and Where?
Q: Where can I post my character profile?
A: You can post it in the Character Profile board. It'll be moved to a sub-board once it is accepted.
Q: Who is in charge of profiles?
A: Atrus is our profile mod here, and he is the main one taking charge of accepting and denying profiles. Global mods may also step in to review any pending profiles if they wish.
Q: What areas of the forum can I role-play in?
A: Anywhere within “The Avatar World” and “Other RPs" categories.
Q: Where can I post my own RP threads?
A: The RP threads can be made in any of the boards of The Avatar World category. They can also be posted in the Other RPs category. TAS Land is pretty much the site's members living together in a city RP. Guest RPs are random RPs that guests can join as well.
Q: What are factions?
A: Factions are groups of people with a general interest or idea shared by all the members.
Q: What are the purposes of factions?
A: Factions each have their own purposes that are essential to the plot of TAS.
Q: How do I join a faction?
A: It is quite simple. To ally yourself to a faction, you just need to write it's name in your character's profile, in the Faction: section. You also need to get the faction leader's permission to join.
Q: Is there any way to play the cannon storyline?
A: There is. On TAS, there is a board called Guest RPs. You can RP the cannon (Aang/Korra) timelines here if you want. Whoever posts the RP will be resposible for it.
F.A.Q #3 - Posting & Role-playing
Q: How many RP threads can I participate in at one time?
A; As many as you can keep up with. However, it's important that try to keep continuity and flow of your character's individual story. If he/she gets burned in one thread and doesn't mention it in the next, this can ruin that. In this way, it might be easier to only be in one thread at a time.
Q: What is the minimum amount of text I can post IC.
A: A full paragraph, that's just five sentences. We try not to restrict members with word counts, but you should try to aim for 100 words at least.
Q: Can I write my IC posts in first person?
A: We’d like if you kept ALL IC posts in third person limited.
Q: Can I RP on my own without anyone else?
A: Yes, there is no problem with it. However, be sure to say so in the RP thread's title.
Q: If a member is taking too long to post, can I post for them?
A: Not without the members permission, no. If a member is delaying a RP thread then the best thing to do is skip them. They will jump back in when they can.
Q: How do you win an IC battle?
A: A war/fight/battle what-have-you In-character is best won by being clever. Setting up an environment where your opponent will more likely receive hits is a good start. Even talented fighters can be beaten if you are clever enough.
Q: A member is god-modding and not being a fair RPer, what should I do?
A: If a mod hasn’t already caught the act, it’s best to contact a mod and notify them of the issue. RPing isn’t much fun when someone isn’t being fair.
F.A.Q #4 - Character Profiles
Q: I posted my profile, how much longer will it take to be accepted?
A: It all depends on when a profile mod can get to it. In most cases it should be less than a day, however depending on a number of factors it could take a little bit longer.
Q: How will I know when it’s been accepted?
A: You will receive a PM telling you your profile has been accepted by a profile mod. Your profile will then be moved to the sub-board reflecting your character's nationality.
Q: What if it gets denied?
A: If it gets denied you will receive a PM from the mod who is reviewing your profile explaining why it was denied and how you should fix it. Fix your profile and then PM the mod reviewing it explaining that you did. Always be polite when PMing your mod. Don’t be rude if your profile was denied!
Q: Can I be the Avatar?
A: No. Not right off the bat, anyway. Usually, there will already be an avatar and common sense dictates that there shouldn't be two. However, should it be necessary to elect a new avatar, everyone will know and be given a chance to apply.
Q: Can I be royalty?
A: Yes. Fun, innit? However, be sure to check the factions board to see if anyone who is playing a ruler wants family. If no one is playing a ruler yet, there's nothing stopping you. If someone is, you should ask his/her permission first before posting your character.
Q: Can I be a lightningbender/ Metalbender/Bloodbender, or otherwise have special bending qualities?
A: No, not without permission.Permission for these is earned, not granted on request.
Q: What about sub-bending qualities like Sandbending/Icebending/Plantbending/ etc?
A: While technically there's no problem with these things, you must realize this is an emerging bending RP. If you do those things, your character would likely be the first person to do it. This means in addition to it taking you ages to figure out, people would likely think it was an unnatural thing to do and try to kill you.
Q: Can I be a master?
A: No. In the plot, bending has only been introduced the past fifty years. It usually takes that long to become a master. Even if your character started bending way back then, there wouldn't be any masters to teach him/her. The best you can do is know everything up to that point, which might make your character feel like a master.
Q: So you’re saying I can be however powerful I want?
A: No, not really. We said you can choose to be talented in an art of bending, not powerful. To become powerful you would need to be a master in the first place, and becoming a master takes a great deal of time and effort.
Q: How many characters can I have on TAS?
A: Although we do not allow multiple accounts, you can have as many as you want. There will be no main character or secondaries, all should be equally important.
F.A.Q #5 - Miscellaneous
Q: What is “The Cbox”?
A: The place where all your chaotic and insane adventures with the rest of the TAS crew begin. Actually it’s just a place to chat with members real-time.
Q: How can I win the TAS monthly awards?
A: By being active, and being a good member.
