Name: Quan Sei
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Nationality: Earth Kingdom
Bending: none
Faction: The Farmers' Union
Appearance: He stands at five feet ten inches (5’10”). His lifetime on the farms have kept him active and healthy, forging a lean, muscly man with sun-kissed brown and hands like granite. He has black hair with proud streaks of grey flanking his sides by the ears. His face is hard and chiselled like his lands, very angular with strong prominent cheekbones. His brown eyes sit above a hawk-like nose. Typically, he’s garbed in a sleeveless green shirt and ragged brown pants, wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat.
The one vanity he allows himself is his beard. This is not just any beard, it is a beard amongst beards. This beard is so beardy that many people have shaved off their beards in shame in light of the sheer majesty of this truly beardy beards. Birds could nest in this thing, in face, when he needs a place to put his tools, Quan Sei’s beard is the first place it goes to for handy storage- many has been the occasion where his wife has stroked his beard to find unused construction nails. It is a strong full bodied and well groomed beard, bushy and thick, the black and silver mane comes down over his chest to his stomach.
Personality: He likes to laugh. Boisterously, loudly and obnoxiously. The whole world has gone down the latrine and in the face of it, everyone takes everything seriously enough for him, so why does he need to add to it? Some say that it was his thunderous laughter a mile away that caused the avalanche that blocked the Hoshi Mountain Pass- consequently sparing his farms from a raid by the Farmers Guild that winter. Some even say that beneath his great beard is not a chin, but another mouth ready to laugh. All that is truly known is that Quan loves to laugh.
He’s an honest worker, always working with his hands long and hard and is equally as brutally honest. He might not be an educated or learned fellow- and he’d admit it, but what he does know about the land, he knows to every anthill and no one can tell him otherwise. He’s as stubborn as his beloved Rhino and about as subtle as it too. Still, few could find a better friend than our rough and rugged Quan.
As a farmer, he knows that one reaps what they sow and that if someone works, they deserve what comes to them. He likes to lift others burdens- whether through helping them to laugh, work, or feed the bellies of their families. He knows he’s been fortunate to be born into a farming family and doesn’t think other should be made to suffer for their misfortunes.
History:
People have often heard the saying: “Born in a cave.” In Quans case, this is true. It was during a Farmers Guild raid and his mother and older brother were hiding. It’s no wonder he enjoys laughter because Quan could not have picked a more inappropriate time to be born. Fortunately, he was, and it was because of this, his family is still alive. Why? Well, hiding in that cave, one of the raiders found them, as he closed in with sword raised, Quan’s mother gave one more scream and little Quan popped out of his mother and slid along the ground crying. The raider turn ghost pale and fainted on the spot. That weak stomached raider would become the Sei’s closest family friend after that fate-filled meeting.
A life of hard work and toil would shape Quan into the man he now is. Practical and level-headed. He became the prankster of the family; putting glue on his father’s tea cup; he barely managed to outrun his father that day, so much was he laughing- and the time he put red petals in his brothers washing, sending his clothes into a strange array of colours. His pranks were harmless and while frustrating at the time, brought some joviality to an otherwise harsh life.
He would find love in Hara, a girl they took in, she had become separated from her family in a city riot and had been wandering ever since. While welcoming her in by putting a light ink in her bath, turning her skin blue for a week might not have been the best start to their friendship, the two found a particular joy getting revenge upon each other. Eventually they married and in time Quan took over the farm and they welcomed their daughter into the world.
Now, Quan and Hara have three daughters, all as mischevious as their parents, but learning about the world and how to help others less fortunate then themselves.
